Shelter Pet Challenge

Is your NCAA basketball tournament bracket busted? In the spirit of March Madness, Petplan insurance has another tournamanet bracket that you might want to follow. However, this bracket is filled with shelter animals. They are in a friendly competition among each other. Petplan’s Tournament of Tails features shelter dogs and cats and the purpose is to find homes for these animals and to help raise funds for the animal organizations caring for them. Each day you can vote on your favorites. Watch to see who advances to the next round of competition.

Donations

PetPlan will donate the following amounts to the winning animal organizations:

  • $100 for Terrific 32 round
  • $200 for Spirited 16 round
  • $300 for Eager 8 round
  • $500 for Final Fur round
  • $5,000 for the champion.

Donations are not compounding; shelter will receive the donation level the correlates to the round they advanced to during the Tournament of Tails.

Pulling For The ‘Under Dog’

If you like picking the ‘under dog’, you’re going to have a tough time deciding who to vote on. These animals come from an array of backgrounds – some found as strays and some rescued from a life of neglect and abuse. One of the contestants is Vera, a pitbull mix with such kind eyes. She had advanced through the round of 32 contestants. She had suffered abuse as a puppy but thanks to the caring and dedicated volunteers at Muttley Crue animal rescue, Vera is recovering and getting the care she deserves.  <Read Vera’s Story HERE>

Some of the other pet contestants come with health issues or physical impairments. Snicker is a 5 year old cat who is blind. He was found as stray and was in very poor health.  But Blind Cat Rescue in St. Pauls, N.C. rescued him and nursed him back to health – his furry long coat is beautiful.  They say that, “Although he is blind, it does not faze him at all: there are many videos of him chasing toys and playing on the Blind Cat Rescue YouTube channel.”

Here is the video of him playing.  Looks like a typical cat playing to us!

The Winner Will Be…..

The winner of the Tournament of Tails will be announced on Petplan’s website and social media pages after voting for the championship game closes on April 6, 2015 at 11:59 pm EST.  Wagbrag wishes all of these wonderful animals (and their organizations) good luck with the tournament and with finding their forever homes!
