By now, you’ve probably already heard of Overstock.com. The company sells a wide range of products from home décor and clothing to health and beauty aids and electronics at rock bottom prices. Their mantra is “We do the work, you do the savings.” With over a million products on the site, you’re sure to find just what you’re looking for at the lowest prices. You can even get free quotes for buying a car and home insurance. Overstock.com is certainly a one-stop-shop.

A New Service for Homeless Pets

Realizing that the powerful technology that allows shoppers to sort through and browse millions of products on their site held the capabilities to do more, Overstock decided to launch a new program in March 2014 to give back. This public service, called The Pet Adoption Program, helps connect would-be pet owners with thousands of shelter animals nationwide in real-time. Through The Pet Adoption Program, pet lovers can sort through the hundreds of thousands of adoptable animals housed in shelters around the country to find the right one for them. Users of the service can filter their search by gender, age, color, disposition and more, just as they do when filtering through Overstock’s products. Once a person finds a pet he or she is interested in, Overstock connects that person to the shelter where the animal is housed to complete the adoption process.

The best part about The Pet Adoption Program is that Overstock provides this service free of charge to all shelters across the United States as well as to anyone interested in searching for an animal companion. The program is for shelter and rescue animals, and Overstock never works with puppy mills or other breeders.

Overstock.com believes every life is valuable, and that’s why they have figured out how to use their technology to improve the lives of pet lovers and homeless pets alike. The company provides this public service because in their words, “a world where there are no homeless pets is a better place to be.”

Overstock.com’s Chairman and CEO, Patrick Byrne, had this to say about The Pet Adoption Program:

“We are an animal-friendly firm and are grateful for the opportunity to use our technology and resources to make a difference in the lives of so many animals and people.”

“Millions of unwanted pets are euthanized annually,” added Byrne. “We can change that.”
