Rescue Dog is now Police K-9

Chance is a German Shepherd who was rescued from abuse and neglect.  The RSPCA found him living outside a home in Bradford, UK with no food or water and very little shelter.  Although rescued, he now displayed defensive behaviors which made it too risky and dangerous to place him in a typical family home.  However, a police officer and K9 handler saw it differently.  Officer Mike Kilburn was visiting the RSPCA when he was asked to evaluate Chance.  The officer noticed right away that Chance showed great potential to be a police dog.  Officer Kilburn’s own dog was set to retire so Chance was selected to go through K-9 training program.  This past Friday, a ceremony was held for those dogs that passed the training – Chance was one of them.

He will become partners with Officer Kilburn. But as Mike explained to “Life With Dogs“, Chance will become much more than just a work partner. Chance will now live at the same home with Officer Kilburn and will become his “friend and protector”.
