5 Exotic Pets That Are Becoming More Popular in the US

The USA is one of the countries with the highest number of pets per family. Interesting enough, the residents there are feeling that having a normal pet, such as a dog or a cat, is not fun anymore. So what do they do? They reach out to certain people and facilities and try to get a hold on some of the more exotic pets.

These aren’t your normal four-legged animals running around the house and playing with your kids. Let’s just say that they are not fond of playing that much.  We decided to give you a list of the 5 most wanted exotic pets in the USA. You decide whether they would make a good buddy, or not. Let’s check them out.

Bearded Dragon

More and more we see people reaching out and trying to buy bearded dragons. These exotic animals top this list as the most wanted ‘unusual’ pets. Bearded dragons are arguably one of the most unique house pets as well as one of the most stunning creatures that you can find in the wild.

Some research has shown that reptiles are slowly becoming far more desirable than dogs, which is a crazy statistic. That explains why the bearded dragons are our first mention on this list. The name bearded dragon often refers to the neck of the reptile, which looks a lot like the normal human beard.

Be mindful though. Taking care of bearded dragons is not as easy as it seems. The problem is not because they can be lethal. Far from it. They are accustomed to a certain temperature, surroundings, light etc. Read this bearded dragon care 101 to get all the information about their history, types of bearded dragons, what kind of food they prefer, etc.

Big Cats

The first thing that comes to many people’s minds when we think about big cats is Mike Tyson. The legendary boxer owned a white tiger back in the day, just because he felt like he needed to spend money on something unusual. Many Americans followed that example. We often see clips on social media of how people are taking care of tigers, cheetahs, and lions. Regardless of how fun that sounds, remember they are top-tier carnivores and are not exactly pet material.

Tarantulas

Tarantulas might the most normal pets on this list. They are safe to keep as long as you have them in a controlled environment where they cannot escape. Small glasshouses are perfect for them and they do not require a lot of feeding and nursing.

Snakes

Snakes are nothing new on this list. They’ve always been popular on the exotic pets lists. Pythons are among the most desired snakes. Similar to the tarantulas, they do need to be kept in a controlled environment. If you plan on having one, make sure you keep a close eye on it.

Foxes

What does the fox say? Well, people that own one know the answer to that question. If raised with proper care, foxes can be the perfect pet. They are often referred to as a blend between dog and a cat since their personality includes elements from both types of animals.

Whatever pet you decide to have at home, make sure you take good care of it.
