10 Hypoallergenic Cats For Those With Bad Allergies

Hypoallergenic Cats

How many times have heard people use the allergies excuse when it comes to why they don’t own a pet? Probably more times than you can count. And while the excuse is a good one (living with allergies is terrible), you can still definitely adopt a low-maintenance pet, like a cat. The solution? Hypoallergenic cats!

That’s right, there are certain types of cat breeds that produce fewer allergens than others, and therefore are better suited for those with allergies. Of course, no cat is 100% allergen-free, but going with a hypoallergenic cat is definitely your best bet.

Siberian Cat

Originally from Russia, some cats of this breed have a lower than average occurrence of FelD1 in their saliva. FelD1 is a common allergen that allergy sufferers are sensitive to.

Similar to the Siberian, the Balinese cat can have lower FelD1 levels. These cats like to be around people and are considered one of the more intelligent breeds.

Bengal Cat

The Bengal is one of the breeds that are more tolerable for those suffering with allergies, however, before you adopt, definitely try a test run.

Russian Blue Cat

Because of the Russian Blue’s dense double coat, more allergens are trapped as oppose to being expelled in the air. These cats are not only gorgeous, but very easy to train.

Siamese Cat

Siamese cats have short, fine fur, which can be ideal for those suffering from allergies. Siamese are known to be very social… and vocal!

Ocicats Cats

These cats also have lower levels of FelD1, so many find them easier to handle in terms of allergies. They love being carried around, so get ready to meet your new best friend.

Oriental Shorthair Cat

These cats are consider very hypoallergenic, and while they are playful, they can become territorial of their owner.
