Before you take another step with your pet, you’re going to want to read these totally strange animal laws from around the world. You never know when you could be doing something illegal, like say, walking your horse around Reed City, Michigan without pants! Or perhaps you wanted to getting your dog educated in Hartford, Connecticut. Yep, that’s a big no-no.

These and so many other funny laws have been established to protect animals and their owners, but some of them take it a little too far. Don’t just take our word for it, scroll through and check it out yourself!

Shh…

In Little Rock, Arkansas dogs are banned from barking after 6 PM. We’re not sure how they can regulate this one!

No school for Fido!

In Hartford, Connecticut it’s illegal to educate a dog. There doesn’t seem to be a law about educating your pup in New Haven, so no worries, you can still send your dog to Yale.

Just one, small popcorn.

You can’t take your lion to the movies if you live in Baltimore, Maryland. At least you’ll save on snacks. 

One or the other…

Thinking of owning a cat and a bird? Well, no can do if you live in Reed City, Michigan. Residents have to pick one or the other.

A police bite?

In Paulding County, Ohio, police officers can bite a dog to calm it down. This law is definitely unusual, and probably not a good idea. 

Pretty dull doggie parties…

Three or more dogs are not allowed in a group on private property in Oklahoma unless owners have a signed permit from the mayor.

Great exercise.

In Turin, Italy dog owners are required to walk their pups at least three times a day. We can only imagine how much those pooches love this law. 

Cruel and unusual…

Also in Italy, specifically Rome, keeping Goldfish as pets was banned in 2005 after it was declared cruel. 

Poor dudes!

Female cats and dogs don’t have to be spayed in Norway, but male cats and dogs can be neutered. 

Pants, please.

Horses aren’t allowed into the city of Fountain Inn, South Carolina unless they are wearing pants. Good luck finding a tailor for this sort of project.

Get in the car!

You cannot tie your dog to the roof of the car in Anchorage, Alaska. Yep, there are apparently actual people out there who drive with their dogs strapped to the roof. 

Speaking of driving…

Australians are not allowed to drive in a public place with a dog or goat attached to their vehicle.

This one’s a gem.

A dog is not allowed to be in a public place without its owner on leash in Belvedere, California. You didn’t read that wrong. The owner has to be on the leash.

In Longbern, New Zealand, a cat cannot leave the house unless it has three bells around its neck. 

Dethroned!

It is illegal in the United Kingdom to have your dog mate with a pet from the royal house. Well, there goes your million dollar idea!
