Dog Stabbed 20 Times Now Stable

Roxy, a dog who was allegedly stabbed 20 times February 28, is in stable condition today and is now expected to make a full recovery. Her owner is currently in a women’s shelter where pets are prohibited. An acquaintance of the owner allegedly committed the horrific act. The person is now in custody and being charged with aggravated animal cruelty – which is a felony in the State of Georgia.

Roxy was picked up from an animal emergency clinic by LifeLine Animal Project’s Fulton County Animal Services (FCAS) in Georgia on Monday and taken to an animal hospital for surgery to remove the tip of a knife from her jaw. Since Roxy didn’t initially respond well under anesthesia, LifeLine moved her to another veterinary hospital, where veterinarians successfully removed the knife tip. Over 100 surgical staples later, Roxy is starting her road to recovery.

We have been informed by LifeLine that Roxy will be discharged from Georgia Veterinary Services on Friday. She has been released by her owner to LifeLine Animal Project.

About LifeLine Animal Project

Founded in 2002, LifeLine Animal Project is a nonprofit organization providing lifesaving solutions to end the killing of healthy and treatable animals in county shelters, promote animal welfare and prevent pet overpopulation in metro Atlanta. As the managing organization for DeKalb County Animal Services and Fulton County Animal Services, LifeLine has dramatically increased adoption rates and decreased euthanasia rates by more than half at both shelters. The organization also operates two low-cost spay/neuter clinics, which have performed 80,000 surgeries to date, and its own rehabilitative, no-kill shelter. Other outreach efforts include its Catlanta trap-neuter-return program, the first and largest in metro Atlanta, for stray and feral cats. For more information, please visit www.lifelineanimal.org.
