There are multiple dog training theories, and most people have strong opinions as to how to train a dog or how to handle certain dog behaviors. Some of these misconceptions can even be dangerous to pets and to pet guardians. That’s why two veterinarians who specialize in animal behavior have helped write a book to “set the record straight” as reported in USA Today. The book is now available in stores. One of the topics that the book addresses is the Alpha Theory. This the belief that you need to be the “boss over your dog”, and it’s just one the several misconceptions that the book tackles. Many people give up their pets due to behavioral “issues”. The goal of the book, Decoding Your Dog, is to provide pet guardians with the knowledge and the tools to correctly interpret behavior and to understand how to handle and correct the unwanted behaviors. The book will assist readers with additional misconceptions associated with challenging dog behaviors like dealing with fears and anxiety, what to do if your dog is afraid of thunderstorms, is your dog trying to be dominant and much more.
Wagbrag has not read the book yet, so a thorough book review is yet to come – but based on the summary alone we like their humane and positive reinforcement approach.
