After a close call, a Virginia Fire Department is going to make a change to help save pets during fires.

Firefighters pulled out a shepard mix from a home fire in Petersburg VA who was close to death. “When I first saw the dog, I really thought the dog was deceased,” said Southside Virginia Emergency Crew Paramedic Bubby Bish, reported by CBS 6 News in Richmond VA.  But thanks to their quick thinking of the emergency personnel the dog survived as seen in this incredible video.

This was the first time the fire station had needed to use oxygen masks on an animal.  They are now in the process of ordering oxygen masks specifically designed for our furry friends.
