The New iPhone 5 and Pet Paws

Of course there are cool new features that come along with these new iPhones.  One of those features, which is getting a lot of attention, is the biometric fingerprint scanner.  So instead of entering a password to unlock your new iPhone, you just need your own unique fingerprint.  Sounds cool – right? Well…some critics are bringing up concerns around privacy, and US Sentor Tim Cook even sent a letter to the CEO of Apple, demanding that questions be answered around the Touch ID feature and just how secure it is.

“Wait”, you may be thinking.  “Wagbrag readers are here to get pet-related information. What’s this have to do with pets?”   Well, some of these new iPhone owners also have pets.  Although most of us want everyone to keep their paws off our new iPhone, others have been curious to see how the fingerprint scanner works with pet paws.  Apparently, it works with human fingers as well as dog and cat paws.  CNN iReporter Mike Linden was curious to see if it would work on his dog, Hurley. It worked – however, Hurley is not as enthusiastic about this feature, seeming to prefer that his beloved Mike keep his paws off when it comes to coaxing Hurley’s paw onto the iPhone screen.

TechCrunch also preformed its own tests, but their willing participant was a cat. The 11 second video below shows the proof (proof that the iPhone works with a cat’s paw; hard to tell if the cat was a willing participant though).

So to all those new iPhone users with pets – test it out.  BUT…by forcing your pet’s paw on to the screen it may cause your pet some stress. Please avoid stressing out your pet – it’s not that cool of a feature.
