Back in December, something caught Adam’s eye when he was leaving a park in Atlanta, GA. He saw something off in the distance. It looked like a dog standing very still, all alone on a pathway. Adam, who is fond of animals and has two dogs of his own, went to investigate.
Abandoned Dog – Hurt and Neglected
What he found was an emaciated dog tied to a post. Others had gathered around, all wanting to know who owned this dog. Adam could tell the dog had been neglected and possibly abused but he could also see that this was “a sweet, playful and welcoming dog”. It soon became evident, the dog had been abandoned. Someone called the DeKalb County police, who arrived and filled out a report. Adam was informed that animal control would be dispatched to come get the dog and take him to the animal shelter. Realizing that the dog needed immediate care, Adam asked if he could take the dog home and foster him. The officer agreed and released the dog to Adam.
Adam took the dog, now named Irv, to the vet. Irv had been starved, his ribs clearly showing and he weighed only 52 lbs. He had lacerations across his face and back, including a chipped tooth. The vet commented that he appeared to have been “beaten up”.
Happy And Health
Fast forward a month – to today, and Irv is now at a normal weight. He now weighs 68 lbs. All of his cuts have healed and he has a health shiny coat. He’s been neutered, received all his vaccinations and even micro-chipped. Irv is a smart dog and a quick learner – Adam taught him to sit, lay down, and stay. Adam said, “Irv loves to play with his two foster brothers and is always up for a tummy rub and he has the biggest dog smile I’ve ever seen”.
Obviously, Irv has lots of reasons to smile – luckily he had found a wonderful foster home who has taken great care of him. Now that he is healthy and well-mannered, Adam is ready to find him a forever home. Rescue Me GA, a non-profit dog rescue organization, is assisting Adam with the adoption process and ensuring that Irv goes to a good home. “I have come across a great dog who needs to find a great home”, states Adam.
