I am being compensated to help share information about the Wellness® CORE® RawRev™ raw food dog food but Wagbrag only shares information we feel is relevant to our readers. Here Is Why I’m thrilled to participate in a Wellness CORE RawRev dog food review

Wellness® CORE® RawRev™ is a brand new dog food offered by Wellness but before giving my dog – Rio – a new food, I do a good bit of research to ensure it’s of high quality. My go-to resources for researching dog food are Whole Dog Journal and Dog Food Advisor. What I found from my research is that Wellness Core RawRev gets great reviews. RawRev receives 5 Stars from Dog Food Advisor – their highest rating. Whole Dog Journal’s 2017 dog food review gives RawRev their highest recommendation as well.

Wellness Core RevRaw is a grain-free kibble with freeze dried raw meat. So it’s a convenient option for incorporating raw into your dog’s diet safely without a lot of fuss of preparation and planning. It’s also high in protein which is great for dogs like Rio who has high energy and an active lifestyle. We do a lot of hiking, jogging and swimming together and it’s important for Rio to stay fit and trim. Therefore, I like the fact that RawRev has NO fillers and is low in carbs.

But if you are like me, you may be wondering – what is freeze-dried and what does that have to do with raw food?

What Is Freeze Dried And The Benefits

Freeze drying is a process of dehydrating the raw food. It starts by freezing the food and ultimately the moisture is removed. The food still contains almost all of the same nutritional value as it did in the raw form. The process also acts as a way of preserving the food so that it doesn’t need refrigeration and extends the food’s shelf life – a great benefit over trying to store your own raw food. Additionally, the freeze-drying process maintains the food’s taste, size, and shape.

Devouring Wellness Core RawRev….A Little Too Fast

Like most Labrador Retrievers, Rio loves food. But he seriously devours his Wellness Core RawRev meals. He woofs down 1 1/2 cups of the RawRev food in under 10 seconds! The good news, Wellness RawRev is a taste that Rio craves.  The not-so-good news is that Rio eats super fast. It’s not uncommon for some dogs to eat fast. However, eating anything too fast can cause choking, regurgitation or more serious issues like bloat.

Rio loves the Wellness dog food and similar to their philosophy, I want him to slow down and enjoy the meal safely. So we turned meal time into a fun game. Here are two methods I’ve used to help slow him down when eating that added to everyone’s enjoyment.

  • Feed during training sessions – This past month I have been training Rio in the preparation of the CGC (Canine Good Citizen) test. During many of our training sessions, I would use his food as treats.  The kibble and the 100% freezed dried bites worked amazingly well as treats.
  • Cupcake or muffin pan – Another great way to slow him up and help him enjoy his meal was by using a muffin pan. I’d place the Wellness kibble in each of the cups within the pan. Rio has to work a little harder to get the yummy food out but he doesn’t seem to mind. (NOTE: Guys, do not use your wife’s new muffin pan without discussing with her first!)

Final Thoughts About Wellness Core RawRev

It’s no secret that I am big into animal rescue and pet adoption. So it was uplifting to see that back in 2007 the company launched the Wellness Foundation. The Foundation provides financial support to nonprofits who help rescue animals and who also share the similar goals – helping pets live happier, healthier, and longer lives.

Not only am I pleased with the high quality of the RawRev food but Wellness is also a company that I can respect and stand behind. If you are looking for a high protein kibble combined with 100% raw meat pieces to create a savory, nutrient-rich meal packed with everything your dog needs to thrive from the core – give Wellness Core RawRev a try.
